Squad 18 is one of 7 Squads in the FDNY Special Operations Command (SOC). Other SOC units include Rescue, Haz Mat and Marine. Squad 18 responds to fires and other emergencies throughout New York City, operating primarily in Manhattan. It is with deep regret for Squad 18 to annouce the death of Lt Nappi of Engine Company 237 who died in the line of duty while operating at 3rd alarm box 0717. Companies were operating at a fire in a two story commercial building when Lt Nappi became overcome with heat exhaustion. He was removed from the fire building and went into cardiac arrest while enroute to the hospital...may he Rest In Peace..........

Sq 18 responded to a report of a worker who fell 20 feet into a cellar. Members of squad 18 packaged the worker in a stokes basket and used their high angle ropes to raise the worker to street level...........

SQ 18 responded to a report of three workers hanging from a scaffolding on E 66 st. Fire dept made access through a window and pulled the workers into safety. Sq 18 operated on thr roof of the building with safety lines on the three workers


 
Crane collapse 10-60, midtown

Squad 18 responded to a report of a crane collapse at 33rd street and 10th ave. First due units reported a confirmed collapse of a crane and transmitted a 10-60. 4 workers were injured and had to be removed using our High Angle ropes. One worker was Doa at the hospital.


 
3rd alarm lower eastside 5 floors of fire

Squad 18 responded on the 10-77 to a report of a fire on the 16th floor. As Sq 18 arrived the fire was auto extending uo the floors above. Squad members gained access to the fire apartments on the floors above and assisted in extinguishing the fire. Fire had auto extended from the 16th floor to the 21st floor.

Squad 18 responded on a 10-77 for a fire on the 8th floor with cilivials hanging out the windows. This photo was taken as civilians were making a self rescue.

Squad 18 responded on the 10-75 for fire on the first floor of a 6 story H type multiple dwelling...Squad was sent to the floors above and found fire entending on the 2nd,3rd,and 4th floors. A trench cut was made by the roof team on the B wing. Squad 18 was then ordered to stretch a line up the fire escape and knock down fire on the second and third floors.

Squad 18 is sad to report that 6 marines from Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron  363   (HMH-363 ) have been killed in a helicopter crash. Squad 18 and the crew grew close prior to the 10 year anniversary of the events of Sept 11,2011.  More info will follow when it becomes available...One of the members killed is US Marine Cpl. Kevin Reinhard of NJ.

Apon Engine 44 transmitting a 10-75, Squad 18 responded for a fire at East End Ave/ E 79 St. The fire apartment was a triplex...(one apartment that has three floors)...Fire was located on floors 7,8,9.   A second alarm was transmitted to extinguish the fire.
